Antique 18ct Gold chunky snake ring from the Early 20th Century hallmarked in 1921

This antique snake ring is so very cute and really comfortable to wear, hand made in rich and vibrant solid 18ct Gold that feels nice and weighty at over 9 grams. The snake coils around the finger 2 1/2 times, being 3 rows at the front of the finger where the head and tail lies

The snake features a detailed head, complete with open mouth and old rose cut Diamond eyes, terminating at the end with a pointed tail

Snakes & Serpents have been a popular motif in Jewellery throughout history, the Victorian era being well documented for a resurgence in popularity due to Prince Albert gifting Queen Victoria her Emerald, Diamond and Ruby set snake ring in the Autumn of 1839 as a romantic gesture shortly after the Queen proposed. Symbolising everlasting love and devotion, it is fitting that Victoria wore her snake ring until her dying day and it is believed to have been buried with her. Snake rings remained very much in vogue into the Early 20th Century and beyond

Today they can be worn for any occasion, as a statement ring on any finger, as an engagement ring, as a wedding ring or a combination of both! Many of the antique snake rings found today are large sizes as they were also very popular with men, this ring is a smaller size making it most suitable as an engagement ring
