Antique Pietra Dura, 15ct Gold, Butterfly Brooch
Beautiful Victorian Pietra Dura brooch featuring a striking butterfly design c1860s
The decorative Art of Pietra Dura originated in Italy, with much of the best work being done in Florence in the 19th Century. It is a highly skilful technique of inlaying hard stone mosaics to create patterns and designs, often very elaborate and intricate.
This brooch of oval form, features a beautiful multi coloured butterfly, a very charming piece in lovely condition, the frame is solid 15ct Gold with a hand etched textured detailing to the surround.
The brooch closes with a simple pin and c clasp (in base metal)
Unmarked, XRF tested as solid 15ct Gold frame

Dimensions: 41mm wide x 31mm high x 3.8mm depth
Condition: Very good antique condition, the pin has quite a lot of play on the hinge due to its hand made nature, this does not effect the brooch when in use, it closes as it should on the c clasp. The hardstones have a lovely mellowed, aged patina
