Victorian, 18ct Gold, Old Cut Diamond, Mourning Ring, Hallmarked Chester 1893

A very striking Victorian mourning ring, gypsy set with three old cut Diamonds

 

The ring reads IN MEMORY OF to the outside of the band, with fleur de lis detailing to the shoulders.

 

Mourning jewellery became the order of the day after the death of Queen Victoria's husband Albert in 1861 at the age of 42

 

A weighty ring at over 5 grams

 

Set with a central old mine cut diamond and old eight cut Diamonds either side, estimated total diamond weight of 0.20ctw,

 

Hallmarked: Assayed in Chester 1893

Dimensions: The front of the band is 6mm high and graduates to the rear to 3.5mm

 

Condition: Good antique condition , The diamonds are in very good condition, there are abrasions and some chips to the enamel and some losses to the rear of the band to be expected as this ring would have been worn probably continuously by the woman in mourning
